I am a Professor Emeritus in the Department of
Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and formerly a Staff Psychiatrist at Mount Sinai
Hospital in Toronto, Ontario Canada. I am also a Psychoanalytic Fellow of the American Academy
of Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the University of
Otago, New Zealand in 1964 and completed my psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine training
at the University of Toronto and the State University of New York, Downstate Medical
Center. My major interests are psychoanalysis and psychosomatic medicine. I am
a recipient of the Mary S. Sigourney Award in recognition of distinguished contributions to
the field of psychoanalysis. My major research is on the alexithymia construct
in collaboration with Dr. R. Michael Bagby at the University of Toronto and Dr.
James D.A. Parker at Trent University, Ontario. I have also collaborated with investigators
in many European countries including Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia and Spain.
